The Original Black-face Lawn Jock is as historical as it is unique.
A fixture on stoops in the Deep South from 1776 to 1875, this 1876 cast iron "designer" version elevated the Lawn Jock
from just a patriotic yard ornament to a status symbol. The Black-face Lawn Jock began to be displayed at
homes of the affluent, and eventually found its way to country clubs, restaurants and hotels where it stood proudly as a universal symbol of "welcome" for decades.
The lawn jockey is like a time machine that you can even use to see into the mindset
of people who lived generations ago.
The dream of a black lawn jockey in 1900
Here's an interesting exercise: what if you had a dream about a black lawn jockey 100 years ago?
Belief in the occult was high in the victorian era, and palm readers and fortune tellers flourished.
Dreams were widely acknowledged to foretell the future and of course the affluent
would be the only ones who could afford to visit a fortune teller to have their dreams interpreted... and own lawn jockeys.
While lawn jockeys were viewed positively as status symbols of wealth and prosperity for the doctors and businessmen rich enough to own estates and travel by
expensive horsedrawn carriages, if you told a fortune teller a black lawn jockey appeared
IN YOUR DREAM, the fortune teller would consult the following reference in
"Dreams, Their Scientific and Practical Interpretations"(1901), by Gustavus Hindman Miller,
and interpret it in this manner:
"To dream of seeing a negro standing on your green lawn, is a sign
that your immediate future seems filled with prosperity
and sweetest joys..."
There was a black Lawn Jockey in your future in 1949!

The Original Black-face Lawn Jock is virtually maintenance-free and ages gracefully. Just like other yard artwork, just hose him down when you're watering the flowers or set the spinkler
to hit him every now and then and he'll look great for years.
The Original Black-face Lawn Jock is fully-painted with red, white, brown, green, and black oil-based enamels- the same kind of paint used on farm machinery and little red wagons that are used a lot and face the elements.
Paint is chip, fade, and UV resistant and will last for many years. The statue itself is made of non-rusting Aluminum so it too will last for generations.
A ring is included for the Black-face Jock's hand, but these Jocks also work well with our optional oil and solar lanterns(lantern sold separately- CLICK HERE
for more information).
